The largest container ship in the world (Emma Maersk) operating at the
largest port in the world ( Rotterdam ). 11 cranes going at the same
time.....
Some information:
Length -- 397m (almost half a kilometer!)
Width -- 63m
Deadweight -- 123,200 tonnes
Engine -- 14 cylinder diesel, 110,000 BHP
Top speed -- 50kph
Estimated cost -- over US$145 million
Capacity -- 15,000 TEU (1 TEU = 1 x 20ft container)
Apparently the silicon paint covering the part of the hull below the
waterline lowers the drag in the water so much that the vessel
economizes 1.2 million litres of fuel per year!
