World Health Organization (WHO) warns of severe form of swine flu - 1 Sep 2009
With the WHO now ranking the swine flu as the most prevalent flu strain worldwide, it also released a statement warning of an increased need for intensive care unit hospitalizations.
Unlike the seasonal flu virus, the swine flu can directly attack the lungs and cause life-threatening pneumonia.
WHO highlighted this debilitating effect, stating, “Perhaps most significantly, clinicians from around the world are reporting a very severe form of disease, also in young and otherwise healthy people... In these patients, the virus directly infects the lung, causing severe respiratory failure. Saving these lives depends on highly specialized and demanding care in intensive care units, usually with long and costly stays.”
In Canada, where four more fatalities just occurred, health officials say that some of the recently perished were in the hospital on breathing machines since June.
Recent data also from Canada indicates that those most likely to die from swine flu are in their 40s and that two-thirds of the most critically ill have no prior underlying health conditions.
At Washington State University in the US, 50 students showed swine flu symptoms, and in China, Xing'an County’s No. 3 Senior High School closed for a week after 8 students tested positive for swine flu.
Formosa (Taiwan) reported 10 newly hospitalized, bringing the total in hospital to 75. Argentina’s death toll has risen to 465 out of 8,240 cases, and a 49-year old person passed away in Israel, becoming the 17th loss
of life there.
The latest five people who have passed away in India included two expectant mothers, bringing the total death toll to 98. Globally, one official tally reports 3,014 fatalities across 180 countries.
All experts acknowledge that cases from April 2009 to date are much too high to count. May the Providence care for the afflicted and comfort those in mourning due to the costs of swine flu. How tragic is the trend already although the full force of the pandemic in many places is forecast as yet to come.
May we collectively move to a compassionate vegan diet to preserve human lives on Earth.

US university reports sharp jump in swine flu cases - 7 Sep 2009
Health officials at Washington State University, USA announced that the number of students believed to have the swine flu virus jumped from 10 cases when school started on August 24, to an estimated 2,000 students by a little over a week later.
With symptoms including cough, soreness, fever, and chills, ailing students feel a dilemma between not attending classes and risking spread of the virus.
The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has issued guidelines for the nation’s 360,000 day care providers, urging vigilance in sending children with fevers or other flu-like symptoms home, not to return until 24 hours after the fever subsided naturally.
In mainland China, two additional schools have reported outbreaks.
Global swine flu fatalities have risen by 57 in just two days to 3,372 total across 180 countries. Collective cases, both mild and severe, are too numerous and too quickly spreading for officials to keep track.
Formosa (Taiwan) reported a 49-year-old man became the seventh death there, while Macau reported 60 new cases on Saturday. Meanwhile, a European health agency reported 395 new cases across the European Union within a 24-hour period. In Africa, 22 countries have reported a total of 5,559 confirmed swine flu cases, including 28 deaths.
In South America, Brazilian officials confirmed 657 swine flu fatalities, the highest number of lethal cases in the world.
Dr. Ivan Hung, clinical assistant professor at the University of Hong Kong's department of medicine stated that swine flu fatality rates were 7 percent in Argentina and 13 percent in Brazil, compared to a 0.06 percent mortality rate for the seasonal flu.
Dr. Hung stated, “It's pretty shocking... and this is what we are expecting in Hong Kong in winter. We are expecting more hospitalizations and more patients to be admitted requiring intensive care and the mortality rate is expected to be much higher than now.”
We appreciate your efforts, Dr. Hung and all health experts, and send our sympathies to all those suffering or concerned by the swine flu. Our prayers for everyone’s ultimate wellness through nourishment from hygienic and vitality boosting fresh fruits and vegetables.

120. Swine Flu Update
Swine flu threatens hundreds of thousands in Philippine refugee camps - 8 Sep 2009
Among the 400,000 persons displaced by flooding and conflict in camps on the Mindanao Island of the Philippines, the World Health Organization (WHO) has identified several cases of swine flu. Inadequate staffing and medical supplies raise the concern of a very rapid and dangerous spread of the virus.
The United Nations is appealing for funds to bring more medical aid to the camps. On record, 3,402 people so far have lost their lives to the swine flu in some 180 countries. Hundreds of thousands of cases have been reported by governments, with numbers realistically reaching the millions. With new afflictions arising in countries across the world daily, Egypt and Morocco each saw the passing of a woman in her 20s due to the swine flu. India’s death toll increased Saturday as 6 people in Karnataka and 3 others brought the total fatalities to 125.
Meanwhile, schools across China have confirmed many new swine flu cases, leading to the suspension of classes at certain schools. Four universities in Hebei province also reported 67 cases as of Sunday. In Formosa (Taiwan), more children were sickened, as a 6-month-old baby became the youngest person hospitalized, while a 2-week-old is the youngest in Formosa to have contracted the swine flu virus. Macau just reported 78 new cases, bringing her total to 1,267.
We join in sorrow for all those suffering from the loss of a loved one to the swine flu, as we pray for the protection of the displaced persons in the Philippines and worldwide. May everyone soon realize the assurance of a vegan diet in halting the tragic pandemics of livestock-transmitted diseases as these.
